We are so so excited to have Dr. Jacquelyn McMillian-Bohler as our guest speaker this year. Spread the word and be sure to invite your friends and colleagues to our upcoming Compass conference!

Hello!
My name is Kassi and I am a lecturer for the school of nursing at Indiana University Kokomo. Last fall, I started a student empowerment/coaching program entitled, "LEAD" or "Learn Empower Advance Deliver". This initiative was meant to coach students who struggled to find the best way to prepare for class, study, manage time and coursework, and more.
I am grateful to be a member of this organization and would love to hear from others about resources that could aid in my teams' ability to support this generation of nursing students. Please do not hesitate to share what has worked for you!
Thanks in advance!
Kassi,
I am interested in hearing about LEAD! My colleague and I do a lot of time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, we even do NCLEX planning/prep along with a mock experience for students. Would you ever be interested in connecting via Zoom call? I'd love to exchange resources and ideas!
If so, please send me an e-mail: dsimmons@collegeofthedesert.edu
I hope to hear from you!
Hi everyone! I thought I would start a group and a post to introduce ourselves and share some resources! My name is Diana, I work as a Student Outcome Specialist in an ADN program in southern California.
A great book/resource I just finished is called "Learn like a Pro" by Barbara Oakley & Olav Schewe.
I'd love to hear about some resources you use to help our nursing students succeed!
Hi Diana,
One book I really enjoy is Ausubel’s Meaningful Learning in Action by Sarah Cottingham. I also love anything I can find on metacognition—it’s one of those topics I never get tired of digging into.
When I’m working with our nursing students, I pull from a blend of Ausubel’s meaningful learning ideas, Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, Kenneth Kiewra's SOAR to College Success and Beyond and what I learned during my 16 years in the classroom. Altogether, that mix really shapes the learning strategies I use with them.
Welcome to our group National Consortium for Nursing Academic Coaches! A space for us to connect and share with each other. Start by posting your thoughts, sharing media, or creating a poll.
Any advice for a first timer? I'm flying in through Atlanta then driving to Auburn.
