Resource Sharing

Hi everyone! I thought I would start a group and a post to introduce ourselves and share some resources! My name is Diana, I work as a Student Outcome Specialist in an ADN program in southern California.

A great book/resource I just finished is called "Learn like a Pro" by Barbara Oakley & Olav Schewe.

I'd love to hear about some resources you use to help our nursing students succeed!

Hi Diana,

One book I really enjoy is Ausubel’s Meaningful Learning in Action by Sarah Cottingham. I also love anything I can find on metacognition—it’s one of those topics I never get tired of digging into.

When I’m working with our nursing students, I pull from a blend of Ausubel’s meaningful learning ideas, Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, Kenneth Kiewra's SOAR to College Success and Beyond and what I learned during my 16 years in the classroom. Altogether, that mix really shapes the learning strategies I use with them.
